Phoenix and Consolidated Convention Auction Brings Strong Prices

WHAT: Prices from 18th Annual Phoenix and Consolidated Glass Collectors Club convention auction on July 23, 2010.
The Phoenix and Consolidated Glass Collectors Club held their 18th annual convention in Pittsburgh in late-July. The club has a website at www.PCGCC.org. The club is an educational group of collectors and dealers of the art glass from Consolidated Glass Company of Coraopolis, PA and Phoenix Glass Company of Monaca, PA.
Here are highlights of items sold at the club auction on July 23, 2010, including a world record price for a French Crystal Ruba Rombic perfume:
$3,000.00
The top lot in the auction sold for $3000.00 (with no buyer’s premium) perfume. It was a Ruba Rombic French Crystal perfume (an auction record for a French Crystal perfume) with original label, which reads: “Ruba Rombic An Epic in Modern Art Pat. Pending” The Ruba Rombic line of art deco glassware was designed by Reuben Haley for Consolidated Glass Company and introduced in January 1928. $ 500.00 Ruba Rombic Cologne in Smoky Topaz. This item had some minor chips on the stopper.

Santa Maria night light with rare colors. This had the original glass base and shade but the aluminum socket the shade twists into was missing.

Very unusual Regent cased aqua-blue Ginger Jar in the small 7½” high size with silver overlay. Complete with original label on base from Ovington’s Store on 5th Avenue in New York. The electroplated silver overlay decoration was done by Rockwell Silver Company, Meriden, CT as their original label was intact and reads: “Rockwell STERLING SILVER NON-TARNISH”. Consolidated made these ginger jars in three sizes and this is the smallest.
